Oba Iman

The Foundation | NYC Collection: Home 4A

To create something truly unique, I first had to immerse myself in the history of the World’s Borough. Tell Me About Queens is the result of that study—the foundational spark that eventually gave life to the entire NYC Collection.

The Hands of History

Positioned as 4A, the fourth movement in this visual journey, the piece centers on the 7 Train—the "International Express"—held aloft by the hands of the people. It represents the collective strength and the human labor that sustains the most diverse crossroads on Earth.

Romanesque Strength

The composition is anchored by Romanesque architectural elements. The heavy masonry and grounded arches represent a New York that remains unshakeable. Through the "Human Trace" of my own fingers, I have archived these foundations, proving that while the city evolves, its core strength remains.

Documented Provenance

One of only 77 works selected for the 2024 Flushing Town Hall exhibition, this piece is the documented origin of a legacy. It is the anchor of the NYC Collection—the moment where researched history met a spontaneous subconscious spark.

The Narrative: The Original Spark

As the documented origin of the NYC Collection, this piece explores the intersection of researched history and subconscious imagination. It honors the 7 Train as a lifeline of global culture and uses Romanesque architectural motifs to symbolize the unshakeable foundation of New York City.

The Artistry: The Human Trace

Every line is hand-drawn entirely from the imagination using a fingers-to-screen methodology. By forgoing a stylus, the artist captures the raw, rhythmic energy of the "International Express" and the hands that uphold it, translating a complex urban history into a spontaneous digital original.
